When the man who invented the Internet speaks, you should probably listen. Sir Tim Berners Lee, who's name is surprisingly rare to hear released his annual open letter on the 29th anniversary of the internet. He warns that Google, Facebook and Twitter hold so much power that they threaten the open and democratic value of the internet - 'The fact that power is concentrated among so few companies has made it possible to weaponise the web at scale.' He would like to see a better balance between the profit these companies must make and the social good he believes they should be doing. It's an altruistic vision of the internet that could be applied to many a major industry where a few key companies hold all the power. Nevertheless, he is right.
